The search tool is part of a citizen-centric system for managing the building permit program in the City of Palo Alto. The new system makes use of Computational Law to support this program. Just as Turbotax has the tax code built in, this system has the Palo Alto development standards built right in. The upshot is that it can provide users with instant feedback on proposed designs and thereby eliminate much of the slow and expensive manual post-processing of building permit applications. The full system will be available starting in the first quarter of 2019. Meanwhile, you can click here to play around with an early prototype.
